Hiking in the Cévennes
Because the Cévennes and the Gard have a wide variety of landscapes in a relatively small area, this region is very popular with nature lovers and hikers. Discover the most beautiful walks to do during your stay at the campsite Le Domaine de Gaujac in Anduze.
Circuit de Valaurie
The Valaurie circuit lasts 2 hours and 45 minutes and starts from the Corbes car park in front of the temple and the 8 km forest walk leads you to the Valaurie cave. With a difference in altitude of 200 m, you will appreciate the magnificent view of the Saint-Jean-du-Gard valley by following the yellow and blue markings at times.
Sea of Rocks Circuit
The start of the Mer de Rocher hike is in the parking lot of the old bridge, in the village of Sauve. It is estimated to last 1 hour and 30 minutes. You will follow the yellow markings and the difference in altitude is 100 m. You will pass by cultural and historical buildings. Then walk through a stone gate and you follow the carriage path. Lovers of old stones will find their pleasure during this beautiful 5 km walk. After this rather difficult route, you can sit on the terrace of a restaurant in the city center to refresh yourself with a glass of fruit juice. This walk is very pleasant to do at the end of the day, from 6 p.m. On the lapiaz well, stay on the marked paths, as it is easy to get lost in this type of landscape without dominant landmarks.
Capelin and dolmen circuit
The Capelin and dolmens walking route starts on the banks of the Gardon, near the submersible bridge, in the Anduze car park. To respect the path of your walk, follow the red and white markings (GR), then the yellow markings and you will continue to walk around the equestrian centre. It is a beautiful circular hike of 5 hours time for a distance of 14 km and the elevation gain is 500 m with a difficult level. At altitude, your efforts are rewarded by the magnificent landscape that awaits you of the Cévennes mountains, the village, the river and the valley.
GR61 – Anduze-Col de l’Asclier
It is a 33 km hike on the GR61 that passes through the Gard department and the Cévennes d’Anduze National Park. You will pass the Col de l’Asclier via Générargues, Mialet, Saint Jean du Gard and Soudorgues. It offers you the opportunity to admire the beauty of the Cévennes mountains, to walk in the forest and along the riverside following the red and white markings. You can contemplate the entire valley from the peaks. A complete 9-hour walk, a real delight for nature and hiking lovers. On the other hand, the level is difficult with a difference in altitude of 1130 m.
